Biometric authentication will soon be implemented in the eTax Mobile
To ensure that regulations regarding components containing electronic invoice business data, as well as methods of transmission and receipt with tax authorities, are developed in accordance with legal standards and reflect practical realities, the tax industry intends to implement biometrics within the eTax Mobile application.

User-friendly, numerous functionalities
In 2014, the tax industry introduced an electronic tax payment application for businesses; in 2017, it launched an electronic tax refund application; and in 2018, it consolidated electronic tax services (eTax) into a unified system. eTax Mobile is an electronic tax application available on smartphones and tablets operating on iOS or Android, enabling individuals and business households to access and manage various tax-related matters at any time and from any location with an internet connection.
Since its inception, eTax Mobile has provided numerous advantages to both taxpayers and tax authorities. The application fosters equity and transparency in tax management and collection, serving as a crucial solution in mitigating tax losses. A representative from the Tax Department of Region 16 reported that from the launch of the eTax Mobile electronic application until the end of March 2025, there have been 19,856 downloads, installations, and utilizations of the application. The volume of transactions conducted through commercial banks has reached 28,972, with a total successful payment amount exceeding 24,127 billion VND.
Mr. Nguyen Minh Hai, Deputy Head of the Tax Department of Region 16, stated that following more than two years of implementation, the eTax Mobile subsystem of the electronic tax system has gained significant popularity among taxpayers. This application facilitates various procedures, including the retrieval of outstanding tax obligations, taxpayer information, tax notifications, tax declarations, and electronic tax payments. Additionally, the application guarantees user security upon installation.
Ms. Tran Khanh Vy, proprietor of a grocery store in Phu Cuong Ward, Thu Dau Mot City, remarked that the eTax Mobile application facilitates self-management of taxes for individuals, allowing them to pay taxes at their convenience without the need to visit a tax office or bank. With merely a smartphone and an internet connection, individuals and business owners can effortlessly settle various taxes, including personal income tax, value-added tax, land tax, and land rent, at any time and from any location using the eTax Mobile application. "In the past, I would spend approximately half a day waiting to pay taxes at the bank; now, it takes me just five seconds to fulfill my tax obligations to the State budget. The eTax Mobile application from the tax authority has significantly enhanced convenience for the public," stated Ms. Vy.
Advocate for electronic tax services
To ensure that the regulations governing components containing electronic invoice business data, as well as the methods of transmission and receipt with the tax authority, are aligned with legal provisions and closely reflect practical implementation, the Tax Department recently convened an online meeting with regional Tax Branches, transmission and receipt organizations, and entities providing electronic invoice solutions. The purpose of this meeting was to exchange, discuss, and clarify matters related to the draft circular guiding the implementation of Decree No. 70/2025/ND-CP, dated March 20, 2025, which amends and supplements certain articles of Decree No. 123/2020/ND-CP, dated October 19, 2020, regulating invoices and documents.
According to data from the Tax Department of Region 16, by the end of March 2025, there had been 19,856 downloads and installations of the eTax Mobile electronic application. The total number of transactions conducted through commercial banks reached 28,972, with a cumulative successful payment amount exceeding VND 24,127 billion. |
According to the tax sector, it is essential that regulations governing the components of electronic invoice business data, as well as the methods of transmission and receipt with the tax authority, are established on a practical foundation. The tax sector is currently evaluating the implementation of biometrics within the eTax Mobile application. At present, the tax sector is actively promoting electronic tax services through this application.
The Tax Department of Region 16 has reported that to date, the unit has received and processed more than 6,324,000 electronic invoices. Of these, over 2,361,000 invoices contain codes, while more than 2,102,000 invoices lack codes but have submitted complete data to the tax authority. Additionally, over 1,860,000 invoices without codes have been sent according to the tax authority's summary table, and nearly 870 invoices have been generated per occurrence. Notably, regarding electronic invoices produced from cash registers, 1,036 businesses, households, and individual entrepreneurs have registered to utilize electronic invoices with codes generated by the tax authority from cash registers.
Thus, the implementation of information technology in tax management not only enhances the efficiency of tax authorities but also assists businesses and individuals in meeting their tax obligations. In the future, the tax sector will continue to expand and refine digital solutions to optimize tax management, promote transparency in financial activities, and provide greater convenience for taxpayers.
