In the new development phase, Binh Duong is striving to become an international destination and annual gathering place for science, technology and innovation.

Highlight of Binh Duong new city

Established in 2010, Binh Duong new city has been envisioned from the outset as a city of science and education—a gateway for international connection and trade-service exchange as well as for the transfer of advanced technology. It is positioned as a convergence point for intelligence and technological development. Here, a digital and innovation ecosystem is being vigorously developed by Becamex IDC, with key components such as the Smart Operations Center, Becamex Business Incubator, Fablab (fabrication laboratory), Advanced Manufacturing Center and the World Trade Center (WTC). These contribute significantly to building a smart city in Binh Duong, aiming at providing a better quality of life for the community.

Building Binh Duong new city into a regional center of innovation

Nguyen Van Hung, CEO of Becamex IDC stated that Binh Duong New City, as the innovation hub of the region, will help attract startups and tech companies, enabling the province to integrate with major global economic organizations. This strategy is set to upgrade the current industrial base, introduce new production tools and support balanced socio-economic development, gradually increasing the share of the digital economy and establishing a strong foundation for Binh Duong to thrive in the digital age.

Binh Duong new city is being developed with modern infrastructure and synchronized urban planning. Key projects such as the Integrated Administrative Center, the Convention and Exhibition Center and the International Standard Sports Center have left a positive mark on public service and contributed to Binh Duong’s international brand development. Notably, the Convention and Exhibition Center has hosted major international events such as the Smart City Forum and the Horasis Asia Economic Cooperation Forum.

Since 2019, Binh Duong has built the World Trade Center Binh Duong New City (WTC BDNC), establishing it as a destination for innovation and sustainable development. This venue has hosted numerous international exhibitions on cutting-edge technology and automation such as the Energy and Automation Exhibition, 2024 Vietnam Industrial Automation and Smart Factory Exhibition, Smart Interior Solutions Expo and 2025 Binh Duong Manufacturing Exhibition. These events offer opportunities for domestic and foreign partners to explore business connections and access the latest technologies.

Huynh Dinh Thai Linh, Director of WTC BDNC emphasized that Binh Duong is not only a location for domestic and international conferences and exhibitions, but also a platform for connecting local enterprises to the global market. Binh Duong is set to become a magnet for new technologies and advanced science—a place where businesses can stay updated on trends in automation and energy, supporting future investment promotion. WTC BDNC plays a pivotal role in developing the province’s service ecosystem, closely linked to the smart city development strategy.

Meanwhile, Eastern International University (EIU) is a strategic project expected to become a center of academic and scientific excellence. It leads the way in realizing the vision of Binh Duong New City as a hub for science, education, and high-quality trade and services, laying the groundwork for innovation activities. Within EIU’s campus, facilities like the Fablab, Becamex Business Incubator, Smart Manufacturing Center and labs for Industry 4.0 research serve as magnets for startups and technological advancements.

A global destination for science, technology and innovation

Binh Duong aims at becoming a smart city and modern industrial center where science and technology drive development, attract high-tech investment and provide a high-quality living environment for its residents. The province’s development plans focus on enhancing digital infrastructure, improving enterprise competitiveness and encouraging grassroots innovation.

WTC BDNC is a destination for innovation and sustainable development. It hosts many international exhibitions of new technology and automation.

Binh Duong is implementing a plan to establish a centralized Information Technology (IT) Park—a strategic project to promote high-tech development in Binh Duong and the southeastern region. The park is planned for Thu Dau Mot ‘s Hoa Phu ward, covering approximately 15.47 hectares. It is set to become a development hub for key sectors such as IT, biotechnology, new materials and environmental technology, with the goal of driving the region’s high-tech industrial growth.

According to the provincial master plan for 2021–2030, with a vision to 2050, Binh Duong will develop a comprehensive science, technology and innovation ecosystem. The core objective is to enhance the province’s capacity in these fields, enabling it to absorb, master and transfer advanced technologies. Binh Duong seeks to become a key international destination for annual science, technology and innovation exchanges.

Investing in science and technology is considered as a vital solution for Binh Duong to achieve sustainable development, enhance competitiveness and adapt to global market changes. Building a science and technology ecosystem is not only a strategic choice, but also an urgent requirement. In the coming years, Binh Duong will focus on developing science and technology organizations and activities, attracting research institutes and universities, promoting innovation centers, communities, scholars and associations. These efforts aim at creating a dynamic community dedicated to innovation and smart city development.

Binh Duong has been named one of the “Smart 21” communities by the Intelligent Community Forum (ICF) five times and has ranked in the ICF’s “Top 7” three times. Remarkably, it has also earned the distinction of being in the ICF’s “Top 1”. This recognition is both an opportunity and motivation for Binh Duong to successfully develop a smart city, balancing economic growth with social progress and green development, placing people and businesses at the heart of efforts to achieve shared prosperity for the local community and Vietnam as a whole in the new era.

Nguyen Van Hung, Chairman of Becamex IDC: As a State-owned enterprise, Becamex IDC has consistently overcome challenges to fulfill its assigned tasks. In recent years, it has concentrated resources on building the Binh Duong Smart City to foster a new ecosystem and serve as a growth engine for the province.
