Fifty years after liberation and nearly forty years of national renewal, along with the remarkable development of the province, Thu Dau Mot city has affirmed its central role as a pioneer in implementing the policies and directives of the Party, the State and the province, achieving impressive milestones. As the country enters a new era—an era of national resurgence, the city continues upholding its dynamism, creativity and advantages while mobilizing resources to realize its vision of building Thu Dau Mot into a smart, civilized, modern and affectionate city.

Affirming central role

During the two resistance wars against French colonialists and American imperialists, the military and people of Thu Dau Mot, alongside other localities in the province, demonstrated unwavering patriotism and resilience, achieving glorious victories that enriched the nation's heroic history.

Fifty years after liberation, upholding its heroic revolutionary tradition, spirit of solidarity, and ability to seize opportunities while overcoming challenges, Thu Dau Mot city has made significant achievements across various fields. Notably, it has been recognized as a first-class city under the province. This recognition has not only reflected the city’s status and development reality, but also embodied the determination and perseverance of the Party Committee, government and people of Thu Dau Mot after years of dedicated efforts. It has also paved the way for the city’s rapid and comprehensive growth.

Further affirming its role as the political-administrative, economic, scientific-technical and cultural-social center of the province, Thu Dau Mot city has maximized resource mobilization to effectively implement the goals set by the 12th Party Congress of the city for the 2020-2025 term. Most key socio-economic indicators have met or exceeded targets. The city has consistently maintained stable growth, with the annual average increase of over 27%. Its economic structure has shifted from an industry-commerce, service-agriculture model to the commerce-service, industry-agriculture one, with the respective proportions being nearly 70% for commerce and services, 39.07% for industry, and 0.03% for agriculture. The city has launched an urban greening campaign aimed at building a "Green and Friendly City" for the 2024-2030 period and beyond, which has garnered strong support from all-level authorities and residents.

Additionally, the city has further enhanced urban rejuvenation efforts under the city’s Party Committee’s Program No. 13-CTr/TU, dated December 9, 2020, focusing on urban rejuvenation for the 2020-2025 period. As a result, the urban green space per capita has reached 15m²/person. The ratio of traffic land to construction land has achieved 28%. The main road density stands at 13.2 km/km². The city has also focused on implementing many activities to create highlights and increase the urban beauty of the city. Specifically, it has developed 150 parks, flower gardens, small islands and green spaces, achieving 125% of the set target. Additionally, various crucial urban infrastructure and social infrastructure projects have been vigorously implemented, resulting in significant positive transformations. The city’s urban rejuvenation remains a top priority, particularly the development of a walking street combined with a night market along the Saigon River, creating a distinctive highlight and laying the foundation for tourism service development in the future.

Building a modern, civilized and smart city

By 2030, Thu Dau Mot city aims at becoming a key growth hub, serving as a central link and gateway connecting other urban areas within the province and the region. The city will develop a synchronous and modern technical, social and urban infrastructure system. Science, technology and knowledge economy will be leveraged as core drivers to enhance growth quality, foster the development of a high-quality workforce and establish a comprehensive innovation ecosystem. Following this vision, the city is mobilizing resources to invest in and develop it into a green-growth, smart service-oriented urban center while maintaining its economic structure focused on services, industry and urban agriculture.

The city is working closely with the province to implement key traffic projects, including those of upgrading National Highway 13, building belt roads 3 and 4, the Phuoc Kien Five-Way Intersection Underpass, the Saigon riverside road. Additionally, the city is completing necessary procedures for the development of major urban projects such as Tan An Urban Area, Chanh Nghia Urban Area, VD93 Urban Area, Century 21 Urban Area, surrounding zones…

Along with infrastructure development, Thu Dau Mot city has always paid special importance to administrative reform, ensuring that procedures are streamlined, efficient and precise to best serve the public. In recent years, Thu Dau Mot city has consistently led the district level in the province's administrative reform index, with commune-level units ranking among the top across 91 communes, wards and townships in the province. Additionally, the city has been actively focusing on implementing digital transformation efforts. It has established community technology groups in quarters, organized training sessions on digital skills and provided guidance on digital transformation for businesses, organizations, households and residents. The city has also assisted in creating accounts and using online public services, encouraging the use of digital services and interaction with the government through digital platforms.

Recently, under the directives of the Government, provincial Party Committee, the city’s Party Standing Committee convened an online national conference on breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation and national transformation (the Politburo’s Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW, dated December 22, 2024). A total of 1,268 civil servants and Party members attended the conference at 15 locations. The conference focused on directing the city’s People's Committee, relevant agencies and localities to implement the Politburo’s Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW in a synchronous and effective manner, based on their functions, duties and specific circumstances. In this regard, the city has directed a focused approach to researching and advising on key breakthrough issues that serve as driving forces for administration, aiming at strongly transforming the growth model based on the application of science, technology and innovation as well as scientific research. The city has issued a decision to establish a Steering Committee for the Development of Science, Technology, Innovation and Digital Transformation to carry out this mission.
